Brilliant Bliss Kirtan ~ It’s Like Sunshine for the Soul!

What is Kirtan?

Kirtan is a participatory musical sound expression experience where ancient chants are called and responded to with great devotional reverence and fervor…often inducing a high state of brilliant bliss.

Chanting is a significant and mysterious practice.
It is the highest nectar, a tonic that fully nourishes our inner being.

Chanting opens the heart and makes love flow within us.

It releases such intoxicating inner bliss and enthusiastic splendor,
that simply through the nectar it generates,
we can enter the abode of the Self.
~ Swami Muktananda

DrumMark

Meet the Band:

With passion and joyful purpose, Debra’s vocals lead each mantra song, as her beloved husband-percussionist Mark keeps the rhythmic pulse alive and moving on various hand drums and a cajón.

Debra adds to the musical experience with a variety of instruments…a Middle Eastern harmonium, Indian metalaphones, a Hawaiian ukulele, shakers, rattles, tambourine and more! Her sisters Denise & Deann, along with other Soul Family friends, often join to lead the response vocals and adds some sweet harmonies.

The most important part of the band is…YOU!

It’s YOUR enthusiastic joy and open heart that expand the experience to the most high vibe, elevated space.

Thank you for participating!

Where do we hold kirtan gatherings?

Home Sanctuary

Our sanctuary rests on 17+ glorious acres just outside of Waupaca, WI.  In the warmer months, the veranda with views into the forest is our favorite gathering spot. And in the colder Wisconsin months, we meet in the Inner Sanctuary. Both spaces are lovely. We hold monthly and seasonal kirtan celebrations here, as well as weekly Loving Awareness Yoga group sessions, special playshops and gatherings.

Can’t wait to join hearts in song with you!

Just what is KIRTAN and how did it find me?

I’ve been in love with mantra music for many years, and fell in love with the harmonium while traveling in India seven years ago. In 2011, I received my first harmonium (cousin to the accordion, sounds like a rich church organ!) ; I’ve been playing ever since.

Participating in kirtan gatherings is one of my life’s greatest joys. Before early 2012, I was always a part of the audience…which is an amazing experience. You see…

Now, I’m blessed to be leading kirtan gatherings of my own!

I feel so honored to help guide the flow of devotion, what a gift!

Kirtan enlivens abundant joyful positivity and loving open-heartedness in me (…and you!).
Be aware… it’s contagious! …and inspiring.

I hope you’ll all come and take part! Your heart and soul will thank you infinitely!

The kirtan experience thrives on the energy of the whole, the audience plays a huge role in the overall vibe of love and devotion that is created.

It’s a powerful, beautiful, memorable experience…whether singing with a circle of hundreds or a handful…it’s pure bliss.

Is there more for me to learn on this Sacred Chant Music path?

Always!  I am forever a student of the heart…a student of loving devotion. I am absolutely aligned with continuing to expand my kirtan mantra music devotion experience!

When I’m not chanting and singing during kirtan gatherings, I’m still chanting!

Mantra singing has become me…it fills me, heart and soul, and keeps me focused on all that is bright and blissful in this world.

It’s my humble opinion that kirtan enhances one’s Joy for life and amps our Loving Awareness to the maximum!

It is my dearest passion to share this journey with YOU!

Am I excited fostering a growing, thriving local kirtan community?

Are you kidding?!?  Emphatically, YES!!!!  Please!!!

Every day I pinch myself, and then I giggle with glee! This IS happening. Kirtan IS real.

The worldwide and local kirtan community IS real…and growing steadily.

I LOVE being surrounded by kindred spirits who know the grace and power of devotional singing…of repeating beloved mantra…of basking in the glow of united hearts full of love.

Mantra music is beyond special.  It needs to be experienced to know it’s grace.  …and once you experience it, you’ll want more and more!

Why Chant?

. . . through that one-pointedness (of chanting), one can merge in the Divine Being and experience the bliss of one’s true self. By letting the mind expand in the sound of divine chanting, each one of us can enjoy the peace born of one’s inherent divinity.  ~ Mata Amritananda (Ammachi)

Although the kirtan involves music, the underlying art of kirtan chanting is not actually about musical ability or training – it is about the heart. Everyone can participate, regardless of age or cultural background. The purpose of this music is to get us out of our heads and into our hearts.

We are living in a time that demands unity of mankind and religions, in order to eliminate discord and misunderstandings. This is exactly the unique contribution of kirtan… It elevates people from most differing backgrounds to a common spiritual platform where they are indeed united. The singing of the holy names is the perfect means to bring people together because it is open to everyone. External differences like age, race, sex, opinions etc. are of no importance.
~ Sacinandana Swami

Mantras have vibrations. When you repeat them, even mentally, they produce a kind of vibration within the body. They shake, they vibrate the entire body—all the molecules, all the cells of the body—and they rearrange your entire personality, they tune your personality. After a certain amount of practice, the entire body begins to vibrate on the same wavelength.Because mantras are the divine part of the cosmic vibration, when your system begins to vibrate on that wavelength, you will begin to communicate with similar vibrations in the cosmos. This is what you call communication with God.
~Swami Satchidananda

The Bhaktis (practicing yogis of love & devotion) wrote ecstatic love poems, and went around singing all the time. They saw the expression and form of the divine in every direction they looked.Their message was simple: Cultivate joy. See the divine in one another.
~ Dave Stringer

We meditate so that our minds can be sharp and alert. We chant mantras so that your souls may be ignited like candles. We walk in the light of this beauty.
~ Yogi Bhajan
